Tom Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes were in London last night for the premiere of Nazi thriller Valkyrie.

Also on the red carpet were British co-stars Bill Nighy and Eddie Izzard.

The film tells the story of Claus von Stauffenberg who lead a plot to try to assassinate Hitler in 1944.

Valkyrie caused some controversy in Germany but Cruise told MTV News he was used to it.

“I’ve been through a lot of these things on these movies. People say ‘why are you working on this movie?’ and I remember with Rainman and Interview With a Vampire I went through it.”

When we asked Tom how he prepared for the role he told us: “(I did) a lot of research…. watched a lot of movies and read a lot of books. As I played him and discovered who he is.”

Valkyrie is out At UK cinemas this Friday January 22
